Let’s Get Minnesota Back on Track.
Meet Tom
My family’s story is Minnesota’s story.
The Wright family settled in Otter Tail County in the late 1850s, around the time Minnesota became a state. The Finch family put down roots in Duluth in the 1890s. My great-grandfather Oscar Bergerson emigrated from Norway to Minneapolis in the 1880s, and his son Raymond founded Bergerson-Caswell Well Drilling in Minnetonka in the early 1950s — a business built at the corner of Plymouth Road and what was then Highway 12, now I-394.
I was born in Wayzata while my father, David Bergerson, was studying for the Bar Exam. He went on to become General Counsel of Honeywell. I grew up in Orono and Minnetonka Beach. After law school, I worked in Chicago but we eventually made the move back to Minnesota 13 years ago in order to raise our children in a better environment that our family considers its home. I also had the pleasure of coaching our kids in soccer and lacrosse. A side benefit of being back in the “State of Hockey” was getting to play hockey again after years of not being able to play since college and I have played over 230 pickup games in JMS Hockey.
I’m a graduate of Blake School and the University of Minnesota Law School, with a career that has spanned many corners of business and law. I wrote an educational book on learning mathematics and then created a small business to teach others. That experience, grounded in more than 125 years of Minnesota family history, shapes how I see what’s at stake in this election.
Minnesota has always been a place of strength and common sense. As your State Representative, I’m committed to returning us to that path.
On the Issues
Accountability in Government
Minnesotans deserve a government that spends their money honestly. Fraud and waste at the taxpayer’s expense must be investigated, prosecuted, and stopped — and officials who enable it must be held accountable. No exceptions.
Education that Works for Families
Our schools should focus on the fundamentals — reading, math, critical thinking, and skills that prepare kids for life. Education should empower students to think for themselves, not push a political agenda.
Jobs and Opportunity
Minnesota should be the best place in the region to start a business, grow a workforce, and build a career. That means a regulatory environment that supports employers and protects workers — not one that drives jobs to other states.
Common Sense for Families
Age-appropriate education matters. Keep explicit content out of elementary schools, and let kids be kids. I believe in protecting women’s sports — competition should be fair, and that means categories based on biology.
Affordability
The cost of everyday life has become a serious burden for too many Minnesota families. Gas, groceries, utilities, and insurance have all climbed — and state policies are making it worse, not better. Minnesota doesn’t need more mandates that raise energy costs and strain household budgets. I’ll fight for policy that balances environmental responsibility with the real-world needs of working Minnesotans.
